Jajpur: Tension prevailed at Langabalisahi village under Sadar block of Jajpur district Tuesday after some youths set ablaze a woman’s house over her son’s love affair with a girl of the locality.
The miscreants manhandled the woman and set her house afire over the alleged affair of her son with a girl of another family in the village. This led to palpable tension in the region.
According to sources, the victim’s son was in a relationship with a girl of the village. Things took an ugly turn after they eloped from the village November 26.
Since then, the girl’s family had been accusing the elderly woman of shielding her son and was threatening her. Early Tuesday morning, a clash erupted between two groups over the affair. The situation went out of control after the vilagers reportedly set the elderly woman’s house on fire, leaving her homeless.
The miscreants later fled the spot after the incident. Household items, valuables, furniture, and important documents were reduced to ashes, in the mishap.
On intimation, a police team reached the village and took stock of the situation. A probe has been launched into the incident.
On the other hand, the villagers allege inaction by the police as they are yet to take any step to trace the absconding couple and arrest the accused involved in violence.
“We are having a difficult time as the miscreants are creating violence in the village. They have threatened to kill some villagers if their girl is not found,” said a villager.
“A probe is underway into the incident and raids have been conducted at several places to trace the absconding duo, Inspector In-Charge of Sadar police station Dushmant Kumar Nayak said.
