Baripada: From childhood, Soumyaranjan Kanungo used to dream about becoming an actor. And, his dream has come true, as his name is something to be reckoned with on the big and small screens in Odisha. His acting skills came into limelight in Tumaku Dekhila Pare produced by Chandan Mohapatra.
His graceful acting has earned him accolades from viewers. After studies, he started modelling initially. He had always been striving to excel in acting while pursuing his studies.
The 30-year-old actor has also showed his acting prowess in other films like Only Pyaar, Sundargarh ra Salman Khan and Khusi. He is now working on a serial titled Kalijai. One of his films will shortly be released.
Soumyaranjan is a resident of KMBM Sahi at Ward 5 under Baripada Municipality. The only son of late Dillip Kumar Kanungo and late Arati Kanungo, he has two sisters, both married.
He started his schooling at Arabinda Purnanga Sikhya Kendra. Since his house is near the KMBM Cinema Hall, he has grown up watching films and developed an interest in films.
To pursue his dream, he used to take part in cultural programmes and act in school plays. However, his interest in films has turned into passion for film acting.
Recalling his early days, Soumyaranjan said, “I used to sneak out of my house to watch films of well known actors like Siddhanta Mohapatra, Mihir Das and Hara Patnaik. For that, I had to tolerate the reprimand of my parents.”
When he was in Class-7, his mother passed away and his father who was working in Baripada Central Cooperative Bank died in 2017.
On a nostalgic note, he said, “My parents’ reprimands and affection has helped me succeed in the film world.”
