Bhubaneswar: Soundarya Pradhan of Odisha clinched the silver medal in the Xth IBCA World Junior Chess Championship for the Visually-Impaired which concluded Thursday in Poland.
Soundarya finished with seven points while local favorite Adam Czajkowski with 7.5 points emerged champion. CM Mirko Eichstaedt (6.5 points) had to be satisfied with the bronze medal. Another Indian in the fray Aryan B Joshi finished sixth with 5.5 points.
Chess tourney
15 players are at tied top spot in the Open category while 10 emerged leaders in the girl’s second after the second round of the Odisha State U-9 Open & Girl’s chess championships, which got underway at Dhenkanal, Friday.
One hundred and three players are participating in the tournament while the top two players from each category will represent the state in the National U-9 Open & Girls’ chess championships at Ranchi, Jharkhand to be played September 15 to 23.

Md Azam of Odisha has been selected as a technical officer of the soft tennis for the ongoing Asian Games at Jakarta. He departed from Bhubaneswar, Friday.
