Bhubaneswar: The state government Wednesday appointed well-known space scientist Dr Sushmita Mohanty as the chairperson of its recently launched ‘Mo School’ campaign.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced this after Mohanty met him at the Secretariat Wednesday evening.
The state government had unveiled the ‘Mo School’ campaign on the Children’s Day this year that seeks to promote and facilitate volunteerism to alma maters to give back to their schools in various ways.
Patnaik said that Sushmita’s appointment as the campaign head will take the initiative forward. “Sushmita Mohanty symbolises the ‘Mo school’ initiative as she is an example of what every Oriya girl and boy can aspire and achieve given the right support. With the ‘Mo School’ initiative the dynamic potential of young children will find greater heights,” he said.
Born in Cuttack Sushmita is the only entrepreneur in the world to have started space companies in three different continents.
Notably, she has been invited for talks at World Economic Forum, International Academy of Astronauts and United Nations.
She has been nominated among the top 100 young innovators and has also featured at cover of Fortune
magazine.
