Ashraya honored writers Dhirendra Kumar Patnaik and Subhasini Mohapatra for their contributions alongside a musical evening organised at Soochana Bhawan. The writers received the Prativa Samman.

Dhirendra’s recent book ‘Cultural Heritage’ had received much acclaim from readers.
Director of Ashraya, Loknath Das, said: “Writers have been contributing to the development of society through their works. Therefore, this is a great privilege to honour such people at this programme.”

Dignitaries at the event also launched a book ‘Darubrahma Smarami’ by Subhasini at the event.

Besides the awards ceremony, the event also featured a seminar titled ‘Situation of oriya language in Orissa’ in which speakers from different fields participated. Professor of engineering Prasant Kumar Das said: “It may be difficult to use appropriate technolgical terms Oriya word in engineering courses. But, my concern is, students may face difficulties to get job in engineering sectors without English language.”

Prativa, the other cultural body honoured activist-cum-writer Shyam Prakash Senapati for his work at another function.

Chitaranjan Sahu, a member of the organisation, said: “Shyam-ji is unique as a writer and social worker. Last year, we honoured Oriya singer Ratikant Satpathy at this event.”
Prativa, too, hosted a musical programme in which 20 singers rendered old and new film songs.

Meanwhile, Rabindra Mandap was the venue of a musical event organised by Sanskar in association with Prafulla Kar Foundation. The programme titled ‘Jewels of Orissa’ had Ananya Sritam Nanda and Pragya Patra as lead singers. Pragya was a participant at the reality show Voice of India.

This apart, 13 young singers of Orissa, including Satya Sarthak, Tanaya, Aryan, Subhansi, Yash, Jyotirmayee, Chinmaya, Harsh, Akankhya, Tanushree, Santosh, Yashraj and Anushree presented songs.

Another notable event of the day was an Odissi dance programme organised by Jyoti Kala Mandir at Bhanja Kala Mandap. The dances presented included Bageshri Pallavi, Sthai Nata, Trinatha bandana.

Music and dance lovers were spoilt for choice on a day packed with events. “Sometimes it is very difficult to choose the program if they are all held at the same time. Some of my family members want to watch dance while others wanted to attend musical event. We split into different group according to our likes,” Sarita Kumari Dash, a member of the audience at Bhanja Kala Mandap, said.
