Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: A city-based builder was Thursday found dead in a pool of blood on his bed at his apartment at Unit VI. The mauser with which he shot himself on the head lay loosely stuck in his right hand.
Prafulla Ojha (45), a native of Fatehgarh in Nayagarh district, left a suicide note in which he wrote of his differences with his wife, said police. Ojha had been staying at the apartment with his old mother and a niece.
Describing the death as suicide, Capital police station inspector Manas Garnaik said, “It is a clear-cut case of suicide. There is a suicide note, a close-range bullet mark on the deceased’s head, and the absence of any outsider at the time of the incident.”
Sharing the content of the suicide note, Garnaik said: “The letter said he was having differences with his wife and did not wish to live any more.”
According to police, Ojha killed himself at around 10 am. “Circumstantial evidences suggest he woke up at around 8 am and wrote the suicide note. Before killing himself, he probably called up his wife and asked her again to come home,” said Garnaik.
Ojha’s differences with his wife, who works as a junior engineer and has been staying away from him for the past six months, could be the motive behind his extreme step, said police. Ojha is survived by his two children, who stayed with their mother at their maternal grandparents’ house in Cuttack.
Ojha was reportedly suspicious of his wife’s fidelity, which eventually led to their separation. However, he would often call her up and ask her to come back to him.
Ojha had closed the door of the bedroom before killing himself, police said. His old mother heard the thud and ran to the room. When her knocks on the door brought no response, she called up the society people who, with the help of their security supervisor, opened the door by unscrewing the bolts and found Ojha lying dead in a pool of blood.
Police have started verifying if the mauser Ojha used to kill himself was licensed or unregistered.
