Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Is the N Srinivasan era in Indian cricket about to end? To get the answer one has to wait another 72 hours. The Tamil Nadu strongman, however, informed the Supreme Court Friday that he will not participate in the March 2 BCCI AGM. This effectively means that he will not contest the elections, thereby bringing an end to his career as a BCCI administrator. He has also apologised through his counsel Kapil Sibal to the Supreme Court bench for conducting the working committee meeting February 8.
The question doing the rounds, however, is who will succeed Srinivasan. The president-in-exile wants Sanjay Patel to take his place so that he can still control the BCCI activities through ‘remote control’.
However, with both Sharad Pawar and Jagmohan Dalmiya entering the fray, things have got murkier by the minute. Hectic parleys are going on in New Delhi as well as in Chennai between the rival factions and both are trying their best to get the blessings of the BJP government or, to be precise, PM Narendra Modi.
As things stand, the BCCI AGM this time around will probably be more exciting than the India-South Africa match.
