BHUBANESWAR: Artistes and art groups of the city geared up to celebrate World Art Day here Saturday.
The state houses a progressive artist fraternity. However, the state needs a major boost in terms of infrastructure if it is to match the global or even national standards.
Orissa Post interacted with various artistes of the state to delve deeper into the observance of the occasion.
Artist Meenaketan Pattnaik said, “Art schools in the state need some major infrastructural up gradation. We need to conduct a minimum of two global classes in a week in big screens for budding artistes to keep abreast with time.”
“We also need our seminars, exhibitions, debates, auctions and contemporary shows to match global standards. Practising professionals have to be updated with the latest trends,” he said.
Sculptor Panchanan Samal said, “Although the state Lalit Kala Akademi organises a few camps, we need major art exhibitions with international participation. The positive news in the current art scenario is that public schools, college as well as private art institutions are prioritising art learning for students can polish their craft.”
Sculptors and artistes of the state are gearing up to participate in the state-level child art competition to be held at Dhauli College of Art and Crafts here Saturday.
