Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: The Union government has asked the state government to implement the newly floated scheme for skill development in the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector as part of the ‘Digital India’ programme as part of efforts at the skill development of unemployed persons in the sector.
“An existing state-level implementing agency would need to be identified and nominated from your side to coordinate the training activities and to act as a single point of contact in respect of your state for the implementation of the scheme,” joint secretary, department of information and technology (DeitY) Ajay Kumar wrote to Chief Secretary GC Pati.
“The training under the scheme can be carried out by training agencies duly recognised by any of the three identified agencies, including the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) and the National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT),” said Kumar.
A target of developing the skills of 3,000 persons has been set for Orissa for the first year, 2015-16, under the scheme. The target for the next year would be decided on the basis of the achievement of the first year’s target, Kumar said.
The Union government has selected 24 courses for launching the training programme under the scheme, which would provide ITI, diploma and post-diploma courses in both full time and part-time modes.
The government would provide assistance of 75 per cent of course fee (to be fixed for each level) for students belonging to general category, with the remaining 25 per cent to be borne by the candidates or the institute, or the two jointly, according to the parameters of the scheme.
The students belong to the SC/ST and economically weaker sections (EWS) would get the training free of cost with 40 per cent of the seats being reserved for such students.
