State kick-boxers set for Dublin world meet

Angul, Nov 15: Six kick-boxers from Orissa have found a place in the Indian side which will participate in the World Kick-Boxing Championships at Dublin, November 21 to 29. The six from Orissa who have been selected are: Kartik Dakua (74kg, fight), Achyutananda Sahoo (69kg, fight), Jagannath Barik (67kg, light contact), Raj Kumar Patjoshi (65kg fight), Krushna Chandra Dakua (sword fight) and Kirti Rani Sahoo (women’s 65kg light contact).
All the six are currently training hard to prepare for the international event at the Nalco township here. The training is being supervised by Kartik, who is also a qualified coach and referee. The players will depart to meet up with their other Indian mates, November 19, before leaving for the venue.
BNR Power triumph
BNR Power (SAI SNG) emerged triumphant in the 140th Veer Birsa Munda Cup hockey tournament which concluded Sunday at Barsuan, Sundargarh district. In the final, BNR Power defeated Sports Hostel, Sundergarh by a solitary goal. Skipper Sushil Minz got the winning goal for BNR Power in the 52nd minute of the match after a nice build-up down the middle.
It was a closely-fought affair with both sides playing attacking hockey. Players of both teams had quite a few openings but failed to utilise the chances that came their way.
