Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assured the state government’s support for JDCA Film Festival at its inaugural function Friday. The three-day festival, an annual event, is under way at IDCOL Auditorium here.
The CM said: “We are committed to art and artists of the state. From this year we have decided to partner with the JDCA film festival. I hope it will help present diverse art forms from the country for global audiences.”
He added: “We plan to set up a craft museum in the city to promote art in the state. It will be the first such facility in eastern India.”
Tourism minister Ashok Chandra Panda, tourism secretary Gagan Dhal, founder of JDCA Jatin Das and trustee Nandita Das were also present at the event.
Jatin said: “We received many entries for the film festival. However we did not receive many films from Orissa to display during the film festival. In the next three days numerous documentaries on varied issues will be displayed for the audience.”
Nandita said: “The film festival is a shared dream. With the concept from the founder we come together to organise this film festival every year.”
The first day of the film festival started with a four-minute film on the life of noted architect B V Doshi who has also designed the building of the JDCA coming up near Khandagiri. Soon after the film, a 70-minute documentary with no dialogues inspired by the artistic life of famous landscape painter Paramjit Singh was screened. It was followed by an interactive session with the painter.
Post lunch, a 55-minute documentary on the life of parallel cinema luminary Nirad Mahapatra was screened. It included an interview with Nirad and was much appreciated by the
audience.
In the evening, more documentaries were also screened. A workshop on digital film-making by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl was another highlight of day one.
