Bhubaneswar: The state is likely to experience sharp rise in day temperatures beginning Thursday with some places likely to record temperature between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) said here Wednesday.
“Mathematical models indicate that day temperature will continue to rise in the state from Thursday,” SC Sahu, Director of CEC, said in a release here.
The rise in day temperature is likely to continue till April 30 after which it may dip but some places might report high temperature ranging between 39 and 43 degrees Celsius on May 1 and 2, he said.
“The probability of severe and widespread thundersquall (Kalbaisakhi) is very low between April 25 and May 1,” Sahu said adding as per preliminary analysis there is a likelihood of cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall in South Odisha districts from the night of May 2.
The cyclonic storm forming in the south-west Bay of Bengal may come closer to south Andhra Pradesh coast on May 1 and moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in south Odisha subsequently.
Models indicate that the cyclonic storm may move along the coast towards south Odisha coast by May 4, Sahu said.
