Bhubaneswar, April 25: People of Orissa witnessed an extreme weather condition with heatwave, rain, thunder squall and minor tremors paralysing the normal life Saturday.
A strong trough line remains active still and has lashed parts of state with heavy rainfall. Malkangiri received a highest rainfall of 50.6mm followed by Koraput (33.6mm), Balasore (33.3mm), Chandbali (25mm) and Baripada (15mm) in the past 24 hours.
On the other hand, temperature went down drastically with the Meteorological Centre recording the highest temperature of 38.8 degrees Celsius at Sonepur followed by 38.5 at Titlagarh, 38.1 at Angul and 38 in Bolangir Saturday.
“The trough line now lies over northwest Telengana, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha which crossed over the state. This generates a squally weather condition which will continue till April 27. The current system will lead to partly sunny weather in the morning and squally weather towards evening at a few places,” said Met director Sarat Chandra Sahu.
“We have issued a warning of thunder squall accompanied by hail and gusty surface wind speeding up to 70 kmph at one or two places along coastal areas in the next 24 hours. The temperature will set for rise from April 28,” the director added.
The weather in the Capital City and adjoining areas may remain partly cloudy with minimal chances of rain and thundershower during Sunday afternoon. The maximum and minimum temperatures may remain around 37 and 23 degrees Celsius Sunday.
