Soochana Bhawan will be first govt-owned building to have rooftop solar system
Bhubaneswar: The power consumption load of Orissa will go up to 30,000 million units (MU) by 2022, this was stated here by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday. “By 2022, the consumption load of Orissa is projected to be 30,000 million units,” Patnaik said during an event of Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) at Soochana Bhawan. In order to ensure uninterrupted quality power supply, the OPTCL has proposed expansion of grid network in the state with 57 new grid stations by 2022, the CM said.
According to Gridco, the state-run bulk power purchaser, the current requirement of power load in the state has remained below 26,000 MU. The power procurer had projected the power requirement of the state at 25,468 million units (MU) during 2016-17.
Patnaik said the transmission system availability of OPTCL has reached 99.96 per cent and is the highest in the country. “OPTCL has been suitably awarded by the ministry of power on this account. Considering its excellent performance, the state government has also entrusted many state funded projects to OPTCL as a nodal agency for implementation,” Patnaik said.
The Chief Minister also announced that Soochana Bhawan would have the first rooftop solar project of the state on government buildings. Subsequently, all government buildings in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will have this system.
Thanking officials of different departments for promoting rooftop solar power in the state, he said, the rooftop solar project will be replicated in 15 other towns of the state.During the function, Patnaik handed over appointment letters to 150 junior technicians in OPTCL.
“Since 2010, the OPTCL has recruited 1581 professionals in various disciplines which should be an example for other PSUs,” Patnaik said, adding, “Such constant recruitment drives to attract highly motivated and talented human resources in power sector of the state will surely help in facing the challenges of increasing infrastructure development and maintenance work” the CM added.
