Rourkela: Police claimed to have cracked the sensational murder of a banker’s wife at Bank Colony near Bagbudi slum in Chhend Colony here by arresting six persons including the husband and his two lovers Monday.

Janaki Oram (45), wife of deputy manager of State Bank of India Kamal Kumar Oram (48) was killed by contract killers hired by the two lovers of her husband after she proved to be a stumbling block in their relationship with the man, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) PK Mishra said at a press meet at Chhend police station.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of August 7 when the two contract killers barged into Janaki’s house and killed her by slitting her throat.
Kamal, his sister-in-law Sonia Oram (45) of Bhandari Shankara under Talsara block in Sundargarh, Reeta Kerketta (35) of Simdega in Jharkhand, contract killers – Irshad Alam (24) and Gulshan Kumar alias Sashikant Sharma (20) of Simdega and a middleman Deepak Ekka (38) of Rajgangpur were produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.

The accused had planned the murder seven months before executing it and had sealed the deal at `3 lakh with the contract killers. A motorbike, mobile phones and a knife were seized from their possession.

Mishra said Oram married Janaki of Mehena in Bargarh district in 2004. However, he was reportedly having an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law Sonia.
This often led to fights between the couple but Oram continued with his relationship with Sonia for which Janaki left him and lived at her parental house.

During Janaki’s absence, Sonia would often stay with Oram at his Bank Colony residence. She stopped visiting Oram after her in-laws came to know about her affair.
Oram then developed an affair with Reeta. The woman would often come to Rourkela on the pretext of visiting her parents and would stay with Oram in his residence.
Both the women used to extract money from Oram in exchange of their relationship.

However, Janaki soon came back and started staying with her husband. This prevented the two women from visiting Oram and extracting money from him.
They decided to get rid of Janaki and hatched a plan to eliminate her.
Sonia first contacted Deepak and offered him `1 lakh as advance to kill Janaki. She latter contacted Reeta after Deepak rejected her offer.

Reeta contacted Irshad and Gulshan to kill Janaki and finally sealed the deal with them at `3 lakh after several rounds of negotiations.
Reeta paid them `1 lakh as advance and showed them the residence of Oram.
The contract killers arrived in the city August 4 and stayed at hotel near the railway station. They decided to kill Janaki in the morning but aborted their plan due to prevailing crowd in the area.

Later, they barged into her residence at 3.30 pm after Oram left for work and committed the crime.  PNN
