Bhubaneswar: A portion of an under-construction building, including its iron framework, collapsed at Delta Square late Sunday night, raising concerns over the safety of workers and construction practices at the site.
The incident took place a day after a building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area claimed seven lives and triggered a wider debate on building safety. Several workers were reportedly present when the structure caved in, though the exact number of people injured, if any, is yet to be known.
Residents living near the construction site said they heard a loud sound late at night. “We heard a loud noise, and in the morning we saw a small part of the under-construction building was collapsed,” said a resident Deepak Mohanty.
Monday morning the locals found a large portion of the iron structure collapsed on the ground. Authorities are yet to clarify how many workers were present, whether anyone sustained injuries and which company was involved in the construction.
