Bhubaneswar: The special task force (STF) of Crime Branch Sunday arrested a drug peddler and seized 3.4528 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 3 crore from his possession near Kuliana area of Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF officials conducted a raid in the locality and apprehended the accused whose identity is yet to be revealed.
The STF has so far seized 15.648 kilograms of brown sugar in 2020. During this period, as many as 40 drug peddlers were arrested and 20 cases were registered.
In a press release, the STF claimed that the total seizure made by the STF in 2020 is much more than the cumulative seizure made by Odisha police (all agencies of Odisha police) in the last 8 years.
The amount of brown sugar seized by Odisha police was 7.236kilograms in the period starting from 2013 to 2019.
The major seizures include 1.746 kilograms seized March 11, 2.729 kilograms seized March 19, 1.008 kilograms seized June 2, 4.458 kilograms seized June 19 and 3.285 kilograms seized July 19.
