Sundargarh: A Class III student was rescued in an unconscious condition from a locked box at a school hostel in Jarda under Gurundia block of Sundargarh district Friday, officials said.
The child, a resident of Brahmanidihi village, was later found to be safe and stable. His family alleged that one of his classmates stuffed him into the box following a quarrel.
According to reports, the boy had an argument with a classmate at the hostel earlier in the day. Upset, the classmate allegedly locked him inside a box.
When the student was marked absent during roll call, the hostel warden informed the headmaster and a search was launched.
Failing to locate him, school officials contacted his family. When they arrived and began searching, they heard noises from a locked box.
Upon opening it, they found the boy unconscious and pulled him out.
While the family accused the classmate of confining him, he denied the charge, claiming the boy had hidden inside the box on his own. The incident has triggered unrest among parents in the area.
