Student union polls to be held Oct 14

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Elections for students unions at different government colleges and universities in the state would be held October 14, higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahy announced here Saturday.
“Student union elections in the state will be held October 14, for which a notification will be issued October 3. The aspirant students can file their nominations October 5, while the next day has been set for withdrawal of candidature,” he said.
A day before the poll, a ‘What I stand for’ meeting would be held in the colleges and university campuses. Counting of votes would start at 2 pm October 14 and the results would be declared soon after, Panigrahy said. Oath-taking programmes will be held October 15.
The elections would be held at all the government and un-aided colleges (excluding self-financing colleges) and the nine government-run universities in state as per the schedule, sources said.    
The newly declared RD Women’s University, GM University and Khalikote Cluster University are going have the polls conducted on their campuses for the first time.
