Kankadahada, Dec 10: In a shocking incident, authorities of Kantapal Fourth Colony Primary School under the block in Dhenkanal district were found to have engaged kids in carrying cement tiles on head, instead of sending them to class, Tuesday.
The children had to carry the tiles after their headmaster Benudhar Pradhan directed them to lug 177 pieces from an old room in the school to the house of a lady teacher across the road.
Besides losing a day’s lessons, the children experienced severe physical hardship in doing the job. When contacted, students Goutam Rana, Kaveri Munda and Binar Mohapatra said they had to do the job at the insistence of their headmaster.
When contacted, Pradhan admitted to have engaged the students in the task as the lady teacher had purchased the stock for Rs 500 for laying the roof of her under-construction kitchen.
Additional education officer Chandramani Mohanta said he has no report about the incident but assured to take action against the errant teacher after a probe.
