Bhubaneswar: Orissa registered a resounding victory Friday by 90 runs against Maharashtra to script their second successive win in the league stage of the 23rd National Cricket Tournament for the Visually-Impaired at Valsad Friday.
Put into bat first, Orissa scored a mammoth 211 without loss in the stipulated 20 overs. In-form opener Sukhram Majhi (104 n o) hit his second successive century in the tournament. Pankaj Bhue (85 n o) also batted well. In reply Maharshtra were skittled out for 121 in 18 overs with Tapan Kumar Gaudo emerging the most successful bowler for Orissa with two wickets.
Orissa will take on Andhra Pradesh in their last league match Saturday.
Inter-college cricket
JCPE and PG Utkal University won their respective matches in the Inter-College cricket tournament, organised by Utkal University here Friday.
In the first match, JCPE defeated SCS College, Puri by nine wickets. Opting to bat first SCS scored 106 runs in the allotted 20 overs with Debendra Dalai (42) emerging as the highest scorer. OM Bikash Nayak (3/19) was the pick of the JCPE bowlers. In reply, SCS knocked off the target in only 11.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. Bikash (68 n o) followed up his bowling performance with a good knock.
In the second match, PG Utkal University (PGUA) scripted a fighting three wickets victory over Jatani College. Jatani notched up a challenging total of 134 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs with contributions from Chittaranjan Swain (58) and Satya Lenka (38). Amit Sahu bagged four wickets for PGUA.
Chasing a target of 135, PGUA suffered early jitters, by losing three wickets. However Rohit Kusur (43) and Amit Sahu (21) revived the innings and they romped home in 18.4 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Mahesh Nayak picked up three wickets for Jatani.
