Bhubaneswar, May 5: Ongoing art workshop titled ’Fine Heart-XI’ that started May 3 is proving to be a hit with children.
Held at Orissa Modern Art Gallery, the workshop is helping young minds learn the basics of art and craft.
The 15-day workshop is organised every year for students interested in the field of art. This year, around 20 students enrolled for the workshop and are attending it regularly where they are learning pottery, terracotta, glass painting, paper mask making, origami, photo frame, canvas painting and sand art.
“We organise the workshop every year to help children learn art and craft during their summer holidays. Apart from teaching pottery, terracotta, or glass painting, we also teach them how to create beautiful products from different waste materials. Like last year, this year too we have invited professional artists and craftsmen to teach the children different aspects of painting and pottery making,” said Subrat Mohanty, coordinator of Modern Art Gallery.
“We have divided the workshop in phases. In each phase, students will be taught one form of art. Today was the last day of teaching them pottery and all the students learnt the art of making pots and toys from clay,” Mohanty said.
Since Mother’s Day is also round the corner, the participants were taught how to make earrings using sealing adhesive and coloured paper to make gifts for their mothers,” Mohanty added.
Maushmi Mitra is teaching participants how to make photo frames, paper frogs and earrings, Madhumita Barik will teach glass painting, while Ramesh Muduli trained the kids on pottery making. Babita Dey and Manash Das are teaching the participants canvas painting and sand art.
“I have learnt how to make toys from clay and pottery and I’m enjoying it a lot,” said five-year-old Sriya Samantaray, a participant.
