Bargaon: A farmer from Salepali village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district is in critical condition after being diagnosed with scrub typhus, health officials said.
Kailash Sahu, 55, was reportedly bitten by an insect about 20 days ago. Believing it to be a mosquito or some other common bug, he did not seek treatment at that time.
When he later developed high fever and severe headaches, he first went to Bargaon hospital. After his condition failed to improve, he was taken to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) in Sundargarh and then referred to a private hospital in Sambalpur, where doctors confirmed scrub typhus diagnosis.

Family members said Sahu’s condition is serious and that his body has turned dark. This is the second scrub typhus case reported from Bargaon in two years.
Last year, another resident had also become critically ill with the disease. Health workers warned that the ongoing farming season, when weeds and creepers spread in fields, heightens the risk, as the mites that carry scrub typhus are difficult to detect. Farmers have been advised to remain cautious during farmworks.
