Bhubaneswar: In a bid to improve Class X results, the Odisha government is planning to start classes Sundays.
Sources said, Ganjam will be the first district where the scheme of running Sunday school will be implemented as there government-run schools’ performance in the board examination was poor.
As many as 340 students, studying in 638 government-run schools in the district, had secured very poor marks. The headmasters were instructed to submit written explanation with reasons for poor result in their schools.
Terming six days of teaching in a week as insufficient, Bhanjanagar High School had proposed opening schools Sundays to the Higher Education department. If the students attended schools on their own accord Sundays, they would definitely score better marks, the report said adding the students would read one or two subjects Sundays.
