New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Monday initiated the initial surgery related to the segregation of the conjoined twins hailing from Kandhamal who came to the national capital.
A team of 40 doctors including neurosurgeons, pediatricians, anesthesia experts and other specialists from Japan have been roped in to undertake the complex surgery, which is often marked by lower success rate.
It is expected that the entire exercise will take more than 48 hours, but the initial stage surgery is likely to be completed by 7-8 hours. Earlier AIIMS, New Delhi, Director Randeep Guleria had claimed that the case is one of the rare cases, which include a high degree of life threat. The success rate of such cases is reported one in 2.5 million live births.

Earlier, the state government had announced `1 crore medial aid for the twins – Honey and Singh.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to AIIMS professor Dr Ashok Mohapatra and enquired about the health of the conjoined twins Monday afternoon and assured all help in this regard.
