Bhuban: In a tragic incident, two boys, who had passed the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations recently, were killed and another sustained critical injuries after a speeding SUV ran over them near a temple shrine under this police limits in Dhenkanal district Sunday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Pruthwiraj Sahu, 15, son of Batakrushna Sahu, and Soumyaranjan Kandi, 15, son of Binod Kandi in the area. The injured boy was identified as Chandan Samal, 15, son of Dillip Samal.
Sources informed that 30 students of Shree Aurobindo School of Integral Education at Surapratappur, who had recently passed the HSC examinations, had organised a get-together before embarking on Plus II courses. Pruthwiraj and Soumya Ranjan were coming to the school carrying cooking materials on their two-wheeler when they met Chandan who was also on a bike. They were discussing something when a speeding SUV mowed them down on the road connecting National Highway with Surapratappur. The villagers rescued the three and rushed them to the Bhuban community health centre (CHC) in critical condition.
However, Pruthwiraj and Soumya Ranjan were declared dead on arrival, sources said. Chandan was first shifted to Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional hospital and then to the Dhenkanal DHH as his condition deteriorated, they added. On being informed, personnel from the Bhuban police station reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident, IIC Soubhagya Kumar Swain said. Efforts are on to trace the killer vehicle, the official added. He informed me that CCTV footage is being examined. Notably, the results of this year’s HSC exams were published May 18.
