Mumbai: India and England will meet in the semifinals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for the third straight edition when they face off at Wankhede Stadium in the 2026 tournament.
The two teams also clashed at the same stage in 2022 and 2024. England ended India’s dream in 2022 and went on to defeat Pakistan in the final to win the title. In 2024, India turned the tables under Rohit Sharma, beating England in the semifinal before overcoming South Africa in the final in Barbados to secure the championship.
Fun fact: In both editions, the winner of the India-England semifinal lifted the trophy.
England have played six T20 internationals at Wankhede Stadium, winning three and losing three. India has featured in seven matches at the venue, winning five. India’s last T20 loss at Wankhede came in December 2017. Its previous defeats at the ground were against the West Indies in 2016 and England in 2012. The teams have met twice in the format at the stadium, with one win each.

India and England have faced each other five times in T20 World Cup matches. India holds a 3-2 edge in those encounters.
Their rivalry in the tournament dates back to 2007, when Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad during a group-stage match following an exchange with Andrew Flintoff. It was the first time a batter struck six sixes in an over in a T20 international.
In the T20 World Cup semifinals, the record between the two sides is level at one win apiece, with both victories followed by title triumphs.
