Bhubaneswar, April 8: Better intelligence sharing can improve the ways to tackle Naxalism in the country.
This was stated by director general of police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik who was addressing a national workshop on ‘Left Wing Extremism Intelligence Sharing’ at Commissionerate Police building here.
“The main objective of the workshop was to discuss ways on better intelligence sharing among the Naxal-affected states,” Marik told the media.
Top Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of nine Maoist-affected states, including Orissa, participated in the workshop organised by the directorate of intelligence of Orissa police.
The workshop was organised after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reportedly expressed its satisfaction over Orissa Police’s combat plan to tackle the ultras.
The MHA has asked the other Maoist-hit states to implement the ‘successful’ anti-Naxal module adopted by the Orissa Police.
Union LWE affairs joint secretary Dilip Kumar, security advisor of MHA Sanjay Aggarwal, director of LWEO Anand Jain, DGP Marik, additional DGP AK Sarangi, Intelligence ADG Sunil Roy and other top IPS officials from nine states- Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa attended the meeting.
“We discussed other Naxal-related issues briefly to work out ways to counter the menace more effectively at national level,” the DGP added.
