Bhubaneswar: The UPSC civil service exams are considered to be the most prestigious competitive exams of the country and those who crack it toil hard to achieve it. During the course of the long and arduous path to reach their goals, many bright young minds call it quits after tasting repeated failures. Only a few who persevere with utmost dedication manage to tame the coveted exams. One amongst them is Kumar Biswaranjan, a young boy of humble backgrounds hailing from Bhubaneswar, who secured a rank of 182 in the UPSC exams 2019 in his third attempt.
Biswaranjan had made it to the list last year as well with a rank of 391 but was not satisfied with the service preference and hence continued to prepare hard to achieve what he has today. He has managed to better his last year’s performance by a huge margin with a rank of 182 after months of sleepless nights and mental grit.
An elder son of the family, both his parents work as tailors in the Niladri Vihar area of the city. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic their business has been impacted in a big way. Biswaranjan said that his parents, despite the monetary problems, never made him realise of the hardships by slogging day in day out so that his dreams could turn into reality one day and the day has arrived.
The young achiever expressed that he learned very early in his life to toil hard for success and that nothing comes easy. He pursued his Electrical Engineering from IIT Guwahati after which he worked in the IT sector for two years. He quit his job in 2016 to completely dedicate himself towards the UPSC examinations preparations.
Speaking about his personal interview experience that took place in March earlier this year he said,” I was asked about the KBK region development, railway connectivity, Assam wildlife etc and I answered the panel confidently. It went well ”.
For the UPSC exams, Biswarajnan put in 10-12 hours of study time consistently for six months before the exam. Biswaranjan said that he was confident about his success which is why he quit his job in 2016. At that time his younger brother was studying in college and their tailoring business hitting a low. Despite that his parents showed immense faith in him and supported him whole-heartedly, he said.
On a concluding note, Biswaranjan said that he will not force his parents to quit their vocation as it is crucial to be self-dependent in today’s time and give them the life they deserve to the best of his abilities.
