Chhatrapur: Scores of ITI-trained youths whose families had been displaced by a Tata project were once again promised jobs at a tripartite meet held Friday at the conference hall of Ganjam collectorate here, district officials said.
Collector Premchandra Chaudhary presided over the meeting which was attended by company officials, representatives of job seekers and district administration.
The company would absorb trained personnel according to its requirement and a decision to this effect would be taken in next seven days, district officials said.
According to reports, several youths of the families who lost their land for the project were given vocational training in 2011 by Tatas. The authorities had promised them jobs at that time which was not kept, the job aspirants alleged.
Haunted by unemployment over the years, trained youths staged demonstration demanding jobs in the company. However, their demands are yet to be conceded by the authorities.
Meanwhile, job seekers decided to launch a civil disobedience movement from Friday protesting the apathetic attitude of the company.
Realising the seriousness of the issue, district administration conducted a meeting between both the parties.
Chhatrapur sub-collector Sudhakar Shabar, tehsildar Suvendu Sahoo, Chamakhandi IIC Ashok Parida and Tata company officials were present at the meeting. The displaced were represented by Somnath Sahoo, Shivshankar Reddy, Balaram Reddy and Ganesh Reddy. PNN
