Teachers force students to do masonry in school

Baliguda: The students of the Government High School at K Nuagaon in Kandhamal district are being forced by their teachers to clean the school as well as do the private jobs of teachers.

This school located near the main road of K Nuagaon is a residential one. Locals said the boys of the school are physically tortured by the staff.

Sources said the school’s teachers make the students clean drains, do construction works and handle sharp tools.

When asked about this some students said they were told by the principal that if they don’t do the jobs assigned to them they would be dismissed from the school and given TC.

The students also complained that the food given to them was of poor quality. They said that when they asked for good food principal Suresh Chandra Palai and teacher Durga Prasad Sahoo, who supplied food, had threatened them.

The school has no toilet. Students go to a nearby pond for cleaning themselves. They requested the media to keep their identities secret as the school authorities may trouble them.

There was a report in the media that students threw hot rice gruel outside. Locals said the footage of the school’s CCTV should be checked to ascertain facts.

The people said that money sanctioned for the development of the school was misused by the authorities.

When Childline Director Rabindra Kumar Panda was asked about this he said they will investigate the matter. District Welfare Officer Chharulata Mallik said action will be taken after a probe.
