Khandapara: The state higher education department, in a letter to private and government institutions, directed teachers to remain in premises till 4 pm without fail.
The order came after complaints of irregularities by teachers and lecturers in colleges and schools were brought to the notice of additional secretary of higher education department, DP Behera.

Such orders had also been passed earlier by the education board but to no avail. Behera expressed his displeasure over the neglect of the orders and warned strict actions against those found to be violating the rules.
Teaching faculties instead of imparting education to students in schools and colleges influence them to attend their tuitions. They illegally run tuitions despite a strict ban on it by the education department.
“Such acts are unacceptable and are the main reasons for pushing future of students into dark,” Behera said adding that such acts were mostly seen in rural areas.
The board also directed guardians of students to bring such matters to the fore if a teacher or a lecturer is found to be running tuitions.
The education system has stooped so low that even guardians have began believing that their children cannot do good in their examinations without tuitions. This gives a clear picture of education being imparted to students in schools and colleges, Behera said.
At least 50-60 per cent of locals in rural areas belong to below poverty line categories and they fail to provide tuitions to their children.
The students from such background invariably fail to clear the examinations due to the low quality teaching in schools and colleges.
Even though teachers earn good salaries, doing tuition for money is highly unacceptable, the board direction said.
Keeping in mind the irregularities, the board directed teaching faculties to stay in colleges and schools till 4 pm without fail. They were warned with dire consequences if they fail to be present in the institutions less than 5 hours a day. PNN
