Bhubaneswar: Acting on a report of Orissa POST, the state government admitted accident-hit teen girl Sheetal Sahoo in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
A year ago, Sheetal, a native of Bhadrak, had met with an accident that left her incapacitated. She got her left hand and right leg badly injured in the mishap. She was first treated at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital and then admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Unable to afford treatment, she had to come back home midway through her treatment after two months at SCB. She has been bedridden ever since. Her injuries, meanwhile, are getting from bad to worse.
OP published an article titled “Unable to afford treatment, teen to seek euthanasia” on page 5, June 22 last. After coming across the report, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi directed Bhadrak Collector to provide treatment to the girl from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
Accordingly, the Collector took up the matter and she has admitted her in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. She is now under treatment in the hospital. The government has sanctioned Rs 20,000 from CMRF, which will be deposited in the account of AIIMS for immediate cost of her treatment, said official sources.
The authorities of AIIMS Bhubaneswar have been requested to provide all required treatment to her the cost of which will be borne by the state government, they said. Earlier, the government had sanctioned Rs 45,000 towards treatment assistance of her.
Sheetal, daughter of Subas Sahoo is 14 years old, is a native of Kantapala village in Bhadrak district. She is a student of Class-VIII of Rantal High School. Sheetal is a survivor of July 19, 2018 road mishap that took place near Rahanj on National Highway 16 in Bhadrak district that claimed lives of five students including her elder sister Sweta.
