Balasore/Langaleswar: A 13-year-old boy in Balasore district died by su*cide Tuesday after his family restricted his access to online gaming, police said.
The boy, identified as Jayakrushna Jena, son of Santosh Jena from Guhalipada village under Singla police jurisdiction and a Class-VIII student, frequently played online games or watched videos on his mobile phone, prompting objections from his family, according to authorities. His mother confronted him Tuesday morning for playing a game instead of studying, police said.
Angered by the confrontation, Jena went into the bathroom, tied a towel to a hook and hanged himself. When he failed to emerge after an extended period, family members forced open the door and found him hanging. He was rushed to Basta Community Health Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Singla police registered an unnatural death case (26/25), conducted a post-mortem and released the body to the family.
