Tumudibandha: Tension prevailed at Tumudibandha community health centre in Kandhamal district Wednesday following the death of a woman after she was allegedly given a wrong injection Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Baijayanti Barik (55) of Budapada village.
According to reports, Baijayanti was admitted to Tumudibandha community health centre Monday. The doctor, after conducting several tests, prescribed her an injection. Her family members bought the injection from the hospital pharmacy. But she fell unconscious after the doctor gave her the injection.
However, without informing her family members, the doctor infused her with a saline and took her to Baliguda community health centre, where the doctors declared her ‘brought dead’ and sent the body for post-mortem.
However, her family members opposed the autopsy and performed last rites of the woman.
Later, the kin of the deceased lodged a written complaint with the Tumudibandha police.
The locals observed a bandh following which all shops and business establishments were closed, reports said.
The locals also submitted a memorandum to the district collector in this connection.
Baijayanti’s family members and locals sat on a dharna in front of the community health centre following which the services at the hospital were disrupted Wednesday.
Tehsildar Chandrahas Nayak, community development officer Jayadev Das and Tumudibandha police station IIC Babashankar Saraf rushed to the spot and restored normalcy after pacifying the mob.
Baliguda SDMO also reached the spot and assured the protesters that action would be taken against the doctor if he was found guilty.
