TFA scrape through to semis

Bhubaneswar, March 9: Tata Football Academy (TFA) entered the semifinals of the Tata Utkalika Cup football tournament after scraping past Orissa Police 3-2 via penalty shoot-out in a quarterfinal match at the Unit-VI HS Ground here Wednesday.
The match ended goalless in regulation time. In the ensuing shoot-out, TFA converted three of their five chances, while Orissa Police could score twice.
Local FC Yajdani Club-73 will face Cuttack Sports Hostel in the first semifinal Thursday. Former India and Mohun Bagan player Subrata Bhattacharya will be felicitated by hosts Unit-VI Athletic Association.
BSH advance
Bhawanipatna Sports Hostel (BSH) entered the semifinals of the Satrughna Jena Memorial football tournament after a 4-3 triumph over Pataka Club, Angul in a quarterfinal match at Berhampur, Wednesday.
Biki Sethy (27th, 57th) scored a brace for the winning team. Matang Hansda (11th) and Arunkatnta Nayak (23rd) found the back of the net once each. Biju Oram (50th), Rahul Oram (62nd) and Bharat Oram (69th) scored for Angul.
Medals galore
Orissa bagged 11 medals including two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in the recently-concluded 37th National Masters Athletic Meet at Mysore, March 2-6.
G Mohan Babu (40) won gold in steeplechase while S Raja Rao (75) bagged three medals including a gold in pole vault and two bronze medals in triple jump and long jump. Sk Haji Kadar (80) also won three medals including a silver in 100 metres and two bronze medal in 200 metres and 400 metres.
Brundaban Sahu (70) won a silver in high jump while Sukanti Patra (45) and Mrs Khirodini (65) bagged a bronze each in 800 metres. Durga Mishra won a bronze in
shot put.
