The 70th annual Cannes film Festival took place from 17 May to 28 May. With the opening film Ismael’s Ghosts, this year the festival played host to a number of good productions. Between the movie stars and magnificent coastal setting, Cannes Film Festival is the most glamorous cinema celebration in the world.  The festival was attended by numerous celebrities from Mumbai and abroad. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made it to the headlines draped in a princess-themed Ellie Saab gown and a Roberto Cavalli red tusso gown whereas Deepika made her debut at the red carpet flaunting a green gown. This event was also graced by debutants like Shruti Hassan and A.R Rahaman. The leading B’town ladies looked at their dapper best as they strutted on the red carpet and attended media interactions. The tinsel town stars who graced the event were Nicole Kidman, Rihanna, Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard and Uma Thurman. Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson broke into an impromptu gig at the screening of the movie Meyerowitz Stories. Australian actor Nicole Kidman won the Cannes film festival’s 70th Anniversary Award. Director Alejandro G. Inarritu won accolades with his six minute long virtual reality installation at the Cannes. ‘The Square’, a hard hitting commentary on the loss of humanitarian values and trust in contemporary society directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund, has won the Palme d’Or at the 70th Cannes film festival. Cannes competition jury president, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar, announced the winner of the festival’s top prize at a glittering closing ceremony held at the Lumiere Grand Theatre Sunday.
