Baripada: A summer dance camp, Mosama 1, was inaugurated by Tap the Feet dance academy here, Thursday.
The participants will be taught several dance forms including urban, breaking, contemporary and classical such as Bharatanatyam during this four-day-long programme.
The organiser, Dibyajyoti Pattanayak, who is a licensed Zumba instructor, said, “We are organising this to create awareness among the youth that dance doesn’t mean only western or classical types. It has different types like the different genres of movies. If anyone wants to pursue a career in dancing, this is a good platform to learn the ropes.” Pattanayak added that the event does have instructors from across the state to impart the knowledge of dance among the aspiring dancers.
It may be mentioned here that the camp will have four choreographers namely, Andrews Willsisa, Animesh Mallick, Chandan Ckay and Debasmita Nayak.
Bboy Freak aka Animesh Mallick is one of the few known Bboys of the state. Being the co-founder of Divine Brothers, he has been experimenting different concepts of breaking. As he said, “I will be teaching history of breaking, basic grooves and how to play with it. I will lay the foundations and the participants may add their flavour to it and tweak with musicality.”
Chandan Ckay, a renowned choreographer of the state, is the co-founder of Neophyte Dance Camp. “I believe art belongs to everybody and everyone can learn it with proper practice and determination,” Ckay said. Ckay was trained at nationally acclaimed dance institute VCOMPANY in Mumbai and he has been selected in several national level competitions and reality shows like Dance Plus Season 4, Indian Hip-Hop Championship, Just Dance India and NEXTSTAR. Ckay will be basically teaching the students on controlling body movement. “How to attain a strong grip over musicality and its parts, body control and its various elements, understanding flow and its practical usage, output of adequate amount of power and how to play in style. I will be teaching these,” he said.
Debasmita Nayak is Nritya Visharad of Bharatanatyam from Pracheen Kala Kendra in Chandigarh University. She has bagged several state level prizes, and is a well-known dance face in the state. She completed her graduation in Arts from Karnataka University. Nayak has participated in NUPUR in Prathana channel and Jhoom Odisha Jhoom. Nayak will be teaching basic steps such as Nritta Hastas, Pada Bheda, Dristhi Bheda, Tatta Adavus and Natta Adavus.
