The Legend behind Saturn Devouring His Own Son

The painting is a work by Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Goya named this painting Saturn Devouring His Own Son. The traditional interpretation behind the painting is the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus who is romanised as Saturn. Cronus had a fear that one of his progenitors would banish and overthrow him in the future. This fear made him eat each of his kids upon birth.

Now, Francisco Goya painted these 14 Black Paintings, but never titled his work. The names were given by others at various points in time. This particular painting is called Saturn, Saturn Devouring His Own Son, Saturn Devouring One Of His Sons, etc.

How did it affect Sushant?

The painting had a rather weird and strange effect on Sushant Singh Rajput. A reproduction of Goya’s work hung on the walls of the 600-year-old heritage hotel that Rhea and Sushant stayed in. According to Rhea, she and her brother were in a separate room when Sushant saw the painting. She said that the actor was reciting mantras when she returned to his room. He ‘looked visibly shaken’, said Rhea.
