Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: Following the cancellation of student union polls at Maharishi College of Natural Law and Rajdhani College after the high drama Tuesday, Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University, Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar (BJB) Autonomous College and Kamala Nehru Women’s College are the remaining institutions that are yet to hold elections this year.
RD University has already finalised its list of four candidates for the president’s post, and two each for the posts of vice-president, general secretary and joint general secretary. Two nominations for the president’s post and one each for the vice-president’s and general secretary’s posts were rejected.
BJB College has shortlisted seven candidates running for the post of president. Five are to contest for the vice-president’s post while six others will contest for the secretary and assistant secretary posts. Also at BJB Junior College four candidates are likely to contest for the secretary’s post and two others for the post of assistant secretary of the cultural association. The secretary and assistant secretary of the athletic association with only one nominee each will be elected unopposed. The drama association secretary’s post, too, remains uncontested while the assistant secretary’s post will be contested by two candidates.
At Kamala Nehru Women’s College posts including president, vice-president and assistant general secretary remain unchallenged while three candidates will contest for the general secretary’s post and two for the dramatic secretary’s post. The same trend prevails in the junior college of the institution as most posts remain uncontested.
The celebrations at Kamala Nehru Women’s College were subdued as the post was uncontested. “There were two valid nominations for the president’s post. One withdrew nomination making Arundhati Panda the unchallenged candidate and therefore the president,” Kamala Nehru president Swapna Pani said.
