Puri: Three members of a family were beaten up by the police in Kumbharapada in this district Monday night following a complaint from the daughter-in-law. One of them, the elderly father-in-law, has been admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition. He was Sarat Paikray of Abakash Lane.
Locals said Sarat’s son and daughter-in-law had a fight over family matters at night. The daughter-in-law called the police alleging torture by her in-laws. A police team reached the spot and picked up Sarat, his wife the mother-in-law and their son who is the complainant’s husband. The cops beat them up black and blue, locals said.
The locals condemned the highhandedness of the police and demanded action against the guilty cops. Locals picketed the Kumbharpada police station immediately after the incident at night. Contacted by the media Tuesday, the police have not responded to the complaint of highhandedness.
