Bhubaneswar, July 7: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has designated one acre land for a three-star hotel out of the 54-acre allocated for commercial purposes near Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.
The project, estimated to cost around `35 crore is expected to be commissioned by 2019.
AAI officials are optimistic about this project with the Director of BPIA SC Hota saying the proposed three-star hotel could attract more international tourists.
Hota indicated that the project would give an impetus to the airlines for commencing new flights to various domestic destinations and would also be advantageous for the 24/7 operations of the airport.
AAI chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra during his recent visit to the state informed Orissa POST that AAI has been planning to generate 50,000 jobs through the commercial projects near the city’s international airport.
Moreover, the hotel project has obtained necessary permissions and it has been decided to give the land on lease for 30 years.
“We are already having the necessary approval for the project and the land will be given on lease. The lease period can be extended for another 30 years and the bidding will begin September 5,” said Hota.
Moreover, director Hota added that this was the first project and they had planned many budget-friendly projects too.
Apart from BPIA, AAI also plans to set up hotels near Kolkata and Amritsar airports. PNN
