Thunderstorm alert issued for three districts amid continuing heatwave conditions

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre Saturday issued a thunderstorm and rain alert for three Odisha districts, Koraput, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj, for the next three hours.

According to the department, lightning and rainfall are likely in the three districts even as intense heatwave conditions continue across several parts of the state.

Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 45.2 degrees Celsius Friday. Sambalpur registered 44.2 degrees, Boudh 44.5 degrees, Bolangir and Titlagarh 44 degrees each, and Hirakud 43.6 degrees Celsius.

Nuapada recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius, while Sonepur registered 42.1 degrees. Sundargarh recorded 41.8 degrees, Malkangiri 41.6 degrees and Bargarh 41.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather office has issued heatwave warnings for Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Nayagarh districts for Saturday.

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in Balasore, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Khurda districts.

For Sunday, the weather office has forecast heatwave conditions in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh and Bolangir districts, while hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail in 18 districts across the state.
