Sajanagad (Balasore): A bickering between two ambulance drivers causing delay in shifting a pregnant woman to a hospital eventually led to delivery of a still-born baby in Sajanagad area of Balasore Monday night. The husband of the woman filed a complaint against one of the drivers, holding him responsible for the death of his baby.
According to reports, Mami Singh, wife of Panda Singh of Jambabani area, experienced labour pain Monday. Singh had contacted 102 ambulance from Rajberhampur hospital. ASHA wanted to take Mami to the nearest Nilagiri hospital as her condition was critical, but the 102 ambulance driver forcibly took the woman to Rajberhampur hospital.
On reaching Rajberhampur hospital, doctors found the condition of the woman critical and referred her to Nilagiri hospital.
Panda Singh again contacted 102 ambulance which did not come immediately. Later, he contacted an 108 ambulance which came and was ready to carry the patient to Nilagiri. But at the moment, the 102 ambulance reached there and its driver Khirod Singh was firm on taking the woman to Nilagiri hospital. This led to a bickering between the two ambulance drivers for two hours while the condition of the woman worsened. It was 10.45 pm. Finally, the woman was brought by a 108 ambulance to Nilagiri hospital where she delivered a dead baby.
Panda Singh alleged that due to the quarrel between the two drivers, his baby died. Later, he filed an FIR at the local police station against the 102 ambulance driver. Locals demanded stern action against the guilty. PNN
