Gania, Dec 2: A tiger enumeration drive was launched at Satkosia tiger reserve project here in Nayagarh district Tuesday, forest officials said Wednesday.
The census is being carried out under the National Tiger Census Programme in Satkosia tiger project area which is spread over Mahanadi wild life division in Nayagarh district and Angul wildlife division of Angul district, said Chhamundia forest ranger Benudhar Behera here Wednesday.
In this programme, the forest officials will collect the pugmarks, claw marks and feces of the animals for their enumeration.
Four forest ranges of Chhamundia, Kusang, East and West Banigochha fall under Mahanadi wildlife division while the remaining five forest ranges of Purunagad, Bantala, Durgapur, Dhandatopa and Athamallik come under Angul wildlife division.
The enumeration of tigers will also be carried out in Madhapur forest range in neighbouring Boudh district and in periphery regions of east and west Narsinghpur forests in Cuttack district as well as in Hindol forest range of Dhenkanal district, forest officials said.
All the officers of the respective forest ranges including guards, foresters and watchers are participating in the enumeration drive. While counting of the carnivorous animals is being conducted on first three days of the month the herbivores animals will be taken up for enumeration on the subsequent three days, forest officials said.
