Puri, Jan 23: Police have beefed-up security in the holy city amid reports of terrorist threat to the state.
Central range inspector general (IG) of police RP Koche Friday reviewed the security arrangement in the city.
“Round-the-clock police patrolling has been tightened. City-bound vehicles are being thoroughly checked at Mangalahata, Grid Square and Atharanala,” said Koche.
Police, meanwhile, intensified patrolling near the Jagannath temple. “A three-tier security system has been placed around Srimandir. Quick response teams have been deployed at Marichikot Square, Gandua Chaura and other places near the temple,” Koche said.
Security personnel with binoculars have been asked to keep strict vigil near Srimandir. Frisking at the temple gates has been intensified and security personnel in plainclothes have been deployed on Srimandir premises. Assistant commandant Kausik Nayak and additional superintendent of police Banabihari Sahu are supervising the security arrangements, the IG added.
The district police also put the marine police stations at Chandrabhaga, Penthakata, Astarang and Arakhakuda on high alert. The stations have been directed to keep in touch with local fishermen venturing into deep sea. City police also inspected 200 hotels and collected information on the boarders. Police sources said three teams have been formed to inspect hotels in the city and create a database on the boarders.
