Rourkela: Much to the joy of residents here, the process to develop the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a medical college cum a super-specialty hospital has started.
The project will be carried out under a public-private-participation (PPP) mode. The college will be made operational by April 2018.
Rs 300 crore will be spent to develop infrastructure of the hospital. Union tribal development and health and family welfare departments will jointly provide funds for the project. The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has provided 20 acres of land for the project.
A strict timeline to accomplish the project has been prepared in presence of Rourkela MLA Dillip Ray, Union tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and RSP authorities.
As per the schedule, site and market assessment report will be prepared by May 15 this year, detailed project report by September 30 and permission from the governing board of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will be obtained by August 30.
Tenders for the project will be floated September 30 and work orders issued by September 31, this year.
Construction of a hostel, library and academic bloc for first year students will be started January 15, 2017. The process will be finished by July, 2017.
Applications will be sent to the state government to obtain no-objection certificate and for university affiliation July 17, 2017.
Study material procurement, appointment of teaching staff, permission from the health and family welfare department and the Medical Council of India would be sought in August, 2017.
Admission of students will be started in April 2018.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to develop IGH into a super-specialty hospital and a medical college April 1 last year while he was attending a function to mark expansion of RSP.
Residents and labour organisations here were sore as the project remained a non-starter even a year after the PM’s announcement.
Bowing to public demand, Pradhan, Oram and Ray held discussions on the issue March 5 and prepared a timeline to accomplish the project. PNN
