Ghasipura: A man found himself in deep trouble after embarking on a drunken rampage in Sadangi village under Anandapur police limits in Keonjhar district Sunday night.
Saib Purty, a married man and father of eight children, undressed himself after a session of heavy drinking and tried to barge into his neighbour’s house, for reasons best known only to him. Some women spotted him running amok, and shouted for help.
Hearing the shouts of the women, Saib sobered up a little only to realise what sort of consequences his actions would entail. By then, however, it was too late.
Enraged locals got together and tried to get hold of Saib, who began to run for his life. The villagers soon grabbed and overpowered him, and then began meting out punishment for his misdemeanours. Saib was first tonsured. Then, he was made to wear a garland made of slippers and was paraded through the village.
A meeting was called and Saib and his family members were ordered to leave the village. Some of the villagers even threatened to castrate Saib if he did not leave the village, and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 on him. Some of the villagers said this was not the first of Saib’s misadventures; he allegedly tried to barge into several houses in an inebriated state and had allegedly made indecent gestures towards women of the village. He was even arrested for attacking a fellow villager with an axe.
Enraged over his activities, locals planned to evict him from his house. However, Saib himself readily agreed to leave the village, sources said. PNN
