Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: Rutuparna Choudhury of Orissa emerged champion in the under-14 girls’ singles event of the AITA Super Series tennis tournament which concluded Friday in Kolkata. A student of the Farhan Ali tennis academy here, the lanky Orissa girl triumphed over Ashrita Nagpal of Karnataka 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at the Bengal Tennis Association (BTA) courts.
In a match where fortunes swung like a pendulum, Rutuparna held her nerves to emerge a creditable winner. This is the ninth singles title for her in the season in addition to the four doubles title she has also won. Overall, it has been a very good year for Rutuparna and she has managed to find a place in the top 10 in rankings in her age category.
Snooker tourney
The 22nd Orissa State Snooker and Billiards Championships will be played at the Vintage Club here and will start November 28. All the top players of the state including Subrat Das, Jeet Kishore Das, Sidharth Sen, Asutosh Padhy and Akash Mohapatra are expected to take part in the meet.
