  1. Does having Pani Puri intensify your cravings? Well, Pani Puris are low on satiety quotient – which doesn’t make you feel full unlike other neutral meals, hence the craving.
  2. Pani Puri is an age-old recipe, assumed to have originated in the city of Magadha, the southern part of modern-day Bihar.
  3. Did you know that Pani Puri has a mythological link too? As per folklore, the dish was invented by Draupadi from the Mahabharata, wife of the five Pandavas. Once the mother of the five Pandavas Kunti had a feud with her daughter-in-law Draupadi and asked her to make a dish from the leftover food and eureka “Pani Puri”!
  4. Being famous across such a vast land mass as India has not only helped the dish to incorporate different regional flavours and compositions but has also given it different names like Gol Gappa, Puchka, Falk, Pakodi, Gup Chup, Paani Ke Patashe!
  5. Did you know that your favourite guilty pleasure is not just flavourful, but can apparently cure mouth ulcers as well!
  6. Maybe a delight for a lot of people but not for you if you count calories. As per reports, Pani Puris happen to have 270 calories, which require 26 minutes of running to burn it down.

Panipuri has evolved significantly over time. Originally known as ‘gol gappa’, the dish consisted of a small, hollow, fried wheat shell filled with spiced mashed potatoes and served with a tamarind or mint-flavored water. Over time, variations of the filling and the flavored water emerged, reflecting the regional preferences and availability of ingredients.
